JUSTIFIED! For many of us this term is used to excuse an action that might otherwise be considered wrong or hurtful. Even the smallest of children do it, ďBut Timmy saidÖ.Ē. When we stand before God, there will be no excuse for our sin. Thatís what we found in Romans 3:19-20. That was the bad news. In verses 21-24, we find the good news! We can be justified through faith in Jesus!
Justification as mentioned in verse 24 is critical theological term and truth. It doesnít mean to excuse wrong action as we use it. There isnít an excuse for our sin and God, in His holiness canít ignore it. Godís justification is something that only He can do and it is something that we desperately need for all eternity.
This word ďjustifiedĒ means to be declared righteous. Only God has the authority to declare this. It is an act He does, not a process we go through. There are no degrees of justification; either we are declared righteous by God or we stand guilty in our sin!
The big question with justification is how can I be declared righteous by God since I know I canít be through my actions? Again the answer is found in verse 24: We are justified by His grace as a gift. We canít earn justification. We can only receive it as a gift from God based on HIS character and nature. We canít and donít deserve it, but God offers us a great gift that determines our eternity.
How is this possible Ėagain, look to verse 24 - ďthrough the redemption that is in Christ Jesus!Ē Jesus Christ paid a great price to purchase or justification. He died on the Cross to pay for our sins. Our sins sold us under the penalty and power of sin. Jesus died to pay the penalty of our sin. His death offers us redemption, to be bought back to right standing with God.
Justification is available to us all because of what Jesus has done! But like any gift, itís not ours until we receive it! The price has been paid. The gift is offered and JUSTIFICATION awaits for us, who choose to trust what Jesus has done and receive Him as Lord. To not trust Jesus is to reject Godís gift of grace!
Are you justified? Faith in Jesus is the only way! Justified in Jesus Ė Pastor Mitch
